For the first introduction of oud to the Felis Umbra catalog, I wanted to do something special to me as I love oud as a note in perfumery.
The Warlord's character is a culmination of my love of medieval aesthetics, influences from several forms of media, and my beloved kitties Hamilton, Snoop and Lucy. Taking aesthetic influences from video games such as The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim and Final Fantasy XVI, my favorite rapper Warlord Colossus, and my overall love of dark, Baroque artwork, The Warlord perfectly embodies what the scent itself conveys.
The Limoncello Accord is a bitter citrus accord that lasts for the duration of the scent and almost creates a juxtaposition with the leathery-amber oud facets. While The Artisan goes in a similar vein in juxtaposition in a gourmand style, The Warlord is a sophisticated, almost gentlemanly scent. Oakmoss, leather, tobacco, and cardamom blending with the bitter citrus nuances as well as the prominent oud notes creates a scent that puts me in the mind of a lord, king, or even an elegant character such as Jay Gatsby. To my nose, The Warlord is a "what-if" scenario if Creed's Aventus or Nishane Hacivat gained oud and leathery notes at the cost of trading the juicy, fruity pineapple notes for a more subdued, almost bitter citrus accord.
Usually when trying new blends before I even give them any sort of conceptualization I give the fragrance about a week or so of wearing and to get a good feel for how the fragrance performs and evolves. During the week I was testing The Warlord, I could not believe how much unsolicited positive attention it received! Since then, it's been my go-to daily driver scent.
